Red BULL hoa

For the past 10 weeks I was given the privilage of working at the RedBull House of Art in Detroit’s Eastern Market.
2 months of work later we had an opening, this is what that opening looked like.
Tons of people(I think we broke 2000?), tons of free drinks, and no food..
CRAZY!

Work from each of the 8 artists,Allison Vince-Michelle Tanguay-Cory Birdwell-James Collins-Kobie Solomon-Brian Baker-Ray Domzalski-Delvona Johnson, will soon be available for purchase online.

Thank you Alison Domzalski(my brilliant photographer sister) for the photos!

My completed body of work.

It’s not every day that you feel you’ve learned a new skill that will be with you for the rest of your life. This past weekend, myself and 9 others took part in a marathon book binding workshop led by Leon Johnson. The workshop was held at the brand new Signal Return shop. A truly inspiring space, I recommend a visit if you’re in the eastern market area(on Division, just west of Russel). Keep an eye on that group page, there is a nice lineup of gatherings coming up. TAKE PART, JOIN.

A little bit of wine, some cheese, doughnuts, pizza, PVA glue, bees wax, and champagne led us right down the rabbit hole that is the monestary stitch. Many thanks to Leon for opening our eyes to the possibilities the book presents as both an item and vessel.
I’ll be posting some videos/pictures of the process/experience in the next couple of days.

Hello bookbinding.

Hey hey
It’s been a while, but a lot has been going on. Too much to really spill right now but look for something fresh real soon.
While you wait go visit 1xRUN.COM and get a limited edition print of my latest work. Hell, go down to 323east this Saturday and see the original at the opening for the Urban Roots group show.
You better hurry on the prints though, you only have 6 days left!

Well, if you missed it, then you missed a great thing.
Today was the opening of Morose Delectation.
New works, by great artists, curated by Ryan Standfest and Cary Loren(yep, Destroy all Monsters).
Get out to the book beat in Oak Park if you haven’t been. Besides the great showing there is a hell of a lot
of great books worth checking out. The show will be up from now until August 5, 2011, so NO EXCUSES!
Max Clotfelter, Ian Heubert, James Moore, Paul Nudd, David Paleo, Andy Gabrysiak, Kaz, Tom Neely, Onsmith, and Stephen Schudlich.

Accompanying the show were copies of the newly released Black Eye, a collection of black and absurdist humor put together by none other than Ryan Standfest. Apparently the Canadians were beside themselves when first seeing this book, read about it here. That being said, get over to the store and get yourself a copy now! No where else will you get to see such a diverse group of illustrators/artists doing what they do best.

Takes the cake.

More to come.

Well, after 4 years of art school I am done.
It was real. Many thanks to the Don, S. Schudlich, S. Henderson, and Walt.
Your guy’s(and gal) help and encouragement helped me move through school
in a way that made it not feel like a task but like a real learning experience.
Alas, some pictures from my wonderful sister Alison, thanks sister!
